Chevrolet SUV Buying Guide

If you’re in the market for a Chevrolet SUV, you’ll have six models to choose from in 2020, including the Trax, Equinox, Blazer, Traverse, Tahoe, and Suburban. We at Gilland Chevrolet GMC understand if you feel a bit overwhelmed, so if you need some guidance, continue reading below to see which model fits your criteria.

Subcompact and Compact Models

First up in the lineup of Chevrolet SUVs is the Trax and the Equinox. The former is a subcompact model, while the latter fits into the compact category. The Trax comes standard with a 1.4L Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that cranks out 138 horsepower and 148 lb.-ft. of torque at a commendable 26/31/28 MPG city/hwy/combined1 fuel economy. Surprisingly, even though it revs out 170 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque, the Equinox’s standard 1.5L Turbocharged 4-cylinder powertrain gets the same efficiency rating as the Trax. Another similarity between these two rides is the fact that they both come with an available AWD system, so you’ll be ready to conquer slippery conditions regardless of which SUV you choose.

Midsize Models

When it comes to midsize SUVs, Chevrolet provides the Blazer and Traverse. That being said, the Traverse offers more overall space with 157.3 cubic ft. of passenger volume to the Blazers 107.8 cubic ft. for the same dimension. With that much room in the Traverse, you’ll be able to fit up to eight guests inside, so you won’t ever have to worry about leaving someone behind. In comparison, the Blazer provides seating for five individuals. Where the Blazer really shines is in its collection of available powertrains. You’ll have two to select from including a standard 2.5L 4-cylinder system that revs out 193 horsepower and 188 lb.-ft. of torque. The Traverse just comes with a standard 3.6L V6 engine, which produces a whopping 310 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque.

Large Sized Models

Last up are the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban. Both of these rides fit into the Large SUV category, so you can expect a ton of space inside for everyone to make themselves comfortable. These vehicles each provide seating for up to nine people, so it’s unlikely you’ll ever run out of room. Similarly, the Tahoe and Suburban get the same 14/23 MPG city/hwy1 fuel economy rating because they share the same 6.2L V8 engine, so you won’t be stopping too often at the pump no matter which one you choose. However, the Suburban does differentiate itself with its massive 121.7 cubic ft. of cargo space2 when compared to the Tahoe’s 94.7 cubic ft. of storage volume2.
